Nuka Approach to Data and Information Management Strategies

  1. Data for Regulatory or Oversight Reporting. This is data that is required for benchmarking by external sources, such as the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This data is also useful for determining where the organization stands in comparison to other health care organizations, and can identify areas that need improvement.
  2. Data for Grant Management. This is often similar to data collected for regulatory or oversight purposes, but is more specific, with parameters defined by the granting organization. Because grants usually operate on a predetermined timeline, the data cycle is similarly designed.
  3. Data for Billing. This is data that is required for the financial component of health care. This data is most often based on “traditional” encounter types, such as visits with a provider, lab work, etc. However, SCF tracks many different encounter types in support of Nuka’s goal to improve overall customer-owner health, even if those encounter types fall outside of traditional billing standards.
  4. Data for Operations. This is the data that SCF employees need to be able to access to do their jobs effectively. It is segmented down to individual team members and is compared across peers performing the same measures to find out what is working well, and what needs improvement.

SCF has built a unified system for all these data types, and uses powerful tools such as our Data Mall to give end users quick access to the data they need. SCF’s Learning Institute also has white papers available on a variety of other topics such as behavioral health and strategic planning, available here.
