Improvements to SCF’s Introduction to Core Concepts Training


Southcentral Foundation’s Introduction to Core Concepts training is a two-day virtual training that is based on SCF’s Core Concepts training, which teaches the communication and relationship-building skills that SCF’s providers use to support customer-owners in their journey toward wellness. As with our Virtual Integrated Care Team training, SCF surveys participants after each training and uses their feedback to make improvements. Here is some of the feedback we’ve received about Introduction to Core Concepts, as well as some of the improvements we’ve made as a result.

Feedback from the first session of Introduction to Core Concepts showed that some of the check-ins felt rushed and there were not enough breaks. In response, we extended the check-in time and shortened some of the other sections to provide more breaks. We have also adjusted the entire agenda to provide an earlier start, to accommodate people in different time zones.

In February of 2021, SCF offered an Introduction to Core Concepts training that was attended by 29 people from seven different organizations. SCF surveyed participants after the training, asking them to use a four point scale to provide answers to questions where a 1 was a “Strongly Disagree,” a 2 was a “Disagree,” a 3 was an “Agree,” and a 4 was a “Strongly Agree.” When asked if they understood how Core Concepts assists with relating to clients/customer-owners, the average response was 3.8 out of a possible 4. When asked if they would be able to do their jobs better as a result of the course, the average response was 3.6. When asked if they believed the tools or practices in Core Concepts would help them with their relationships, the average response was 3.7. And when asked if they were overall satisfied with their Core Concepts experience, the average response was 3.8.

In April of 2021, SCF held another Introduction to Core Concepts training, attended by 12 people from an outside organization. When surveyed after the training, 100% agreed or strongly agreed that they would be able to do their jobs better as a result of the course. 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the Core Concepts practices would help them with their relationships. And 100% agreed or strongly agreed that satisfied with Introduction to Core Concepts.

One participant stated about the training:

The strengths of this experience were having great Learning Circle Leaders that opened up a warm environment so others could share such personal stories.

Another participant stated:

Being able to relate to people through their personal stories made it easier to talk about my own story even though it is hard to talk about.

The Learning Institute is offering a session of Introduction to Core Concepts as part of our summer line-up of events. This line-up includes the Virtual Nuka Conference, which offers live sessions on a number of topics related to SCF’s Nuka System of Care, and our Virtual Integrated Care Team training, which is based on an internal training that SCF uses to support Integrated Care Teams in improving services for customer-owners, as well as enhancing team dynamics and satisfaction.  Any or all of these events can be signed up for on our registration page.
