The keynote speaker at the conference will be Dr. Thomas Bodenheimer. Dr. Bodenheimer is a general internist who spent 32 years in full-time primary care practice in San Francisco’s Mission District; 10 of those years were in community health centers and 22 were in private practice. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and Founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Primary Care.
Dr. Bodenheimer has long been an advocate for working in partnership with patients to help them achieve their health goals—exactly the approach SCF takes in relationship with customer-owners. His work at the Center for Excellence in Primary Care has included finding ways to help medical practices work better, with a strong focus on team-based care to improve quality and the patient experience. He has also focused on reducing waste in the health care system and helping patients get more value from their visits.
An expert in the field of primary care, Dr. Bodenheimer has authored or co-authored over 100 articles on a wide range of topics, including evidence-based health, transforming primary care practice, helping patients to adopt healthy behaviors, how to help patients with chronic illnesses, improving access to care, and more.
